My recollection is that Donahue strived to avoid the overt stupidity and sensationalism that would be the bread and butter of all those programs he would eventually spawn, one of those unfortunate cases where the parent must surely look upon their own children with disgust and regret.

There was a legitimate attempt to take a stab at non sensationalized trash, but it eventually morphed into the same show as about 6 others.
