I would have to power up my de-nostalgia-ifier for like three whole episodes before I've reached the point where I can rate this show objectively. KAAAA MEEE HAAA MEEE HAAAAAAAA

I used to be obsessed with this show as a teen but looking back on it objectively it does not hold up well. The plot being shallower than a kiddy pool doesn't stop it from being riddled with holes, especially regarding powerlevels which, like another reviewer said, were idiotic to begin with. The action itself, arguably the heart of the show, drags on past the point of tedium. Characters constantly die but then are brought back only to die again. Nowadays I much prefer the original Dragon Ball.

Okay yeah I saw it like fifteen years ago, so my memory's a bit fuzzy. But over the years I've come to detest excessively long and drawn-out shonen series, and many shonen tropes in general. Dudes training to get stronger so they can punch/blast their enemies harder than they can punch/blast them, it's so boring. Actually interesting fights where they aren't over-explained to death are few and far between. May still be of some nostalgic interest though.

DBZ was one of if not my favorite show when growing up. Compared to other action animes though, it's really crappy. The show often relies on shouting matches between the fighters and the concept of power levels is laughably idiotic. It's also really inconsistent, what happened to Launch from DB? Or their rules about how death works? That doesn't even really dive into its juvenile plot. Still, I somewhat enjoy this series despite its puerile nature just because I like its setting and characters.

much of my high score im sure is my fanboydom, having grown up since a young child loving dragon ball z, and especially looking up to vegeta as the pinnacle of well earned machismo. fun battles to watch, a repeat narrative that should push me away but the formula always drags me back in. near and dear to my heart, there will always be a place for it there for DBz.

nonboosted score was 90 probably be higher next time and would be higher without the weird dub parts where the voices change etc. that was around end of frieza saga, beginning of androids saga i think. piccolo mighta been my fav character this time. saiyan saga would be best but short and initial goku vs vegeta fight too short and basic. way to namek meh. end of frieza saga dragged on too long, too many flashbacks. inside buu worst. other lil problems. like near the end looking forward to GT lol

Incredibly influential, but it episodes are stretched so thin, makes it difficult to watch. I suggest watching DBZ Kai for a streamlined experience

I really do enjoy this show despite it's very obvious shortcomings. It's almost worth watching in this state but the best way to watch it is Kai which cuts out most of the filler and most of the standing around and talking moments which comprise 70% of the time in between the fights.

Saiyan Saga is grounded and pretty entertaining, 65. Frieza Saga has too much filler and an overrated villain, 55. Cell Saga has a good start and seemingly interesting villain. It loses that charm by the end, 55. Buu Saga has Fat Buu and the Hercule storyline, 65.
