Dragon Ball Z

I would have to power up my de-nostalgia-ifier for like three whole episodes before I've reached the point where I can rate this show objectively. KAAAA MEEE HAAA MEEE HAAAAAAAA

This was my after school routine for years, watching Dragon Ball Z on Toonami. The pacing was eternal, and it felt like you could watch an episode to see nothing happen, but when you're 14 or 15 years old, and you just wanted to unwind with a bowl of Hormel Turkey chili over a bag of Fritos, smothered in cheese, you didn't really mind too much. This was the gateway anime for me, and I'm sure I'm far from the only one that applies to.

very good

Saiyan Saga is grounded and pretty entertaining, 65. Frieza Saga has too much filler, 55. Cell Saga has a good start and seemingly interesting villain. It loses that charm by the end, 55. Buu Saga has Fat Buu and the Hercule storyline, 65.

one of the greats for a reason

Plenty of awesome moments. Serious pacing issues (but - perhaps just because I saw this version first - I prefer this version over what I've seen of the re-edited, HD DBZ Kai). Cast is more of a mixed bag than the all-around awesome cast of the original DB. My nostalgia bias and affection for it earns it a high score.

Incredibly influential, but it episodes are stretched so thin, makes it difficult to watch. I suggest watching DBZ Kai for a streamlined experience
