"You have a fixation for trees, Craven, an arboreal passion!" Good direction and a strong script, though the middle episodes could have benefited from significant trimming. This might have been straight up brilliant if they had realized it within five episodes instead of six.

Excellent series which unfolds in an intelligent, complex way without exposition. Terrific long lens photography. Somewhat let down by the conclusion though.

A wonderfully enigmatic slow burn, with a compelling story and an intriguing set of characters - not least Jedburgh, who is a brilliant creation. I just wish I could have seen this in '85, when it was even more thematically relevant.

I remember this from back in the day, watching it with the fam. Eric Clapton's score is exquisite and inspired me back at an AYM course with Benedict Cumberbatch's wife.

I think of this site as about film; thus I feel dirty for having ranked this at all, a feeling only partly assuaged by writing this comment. Nonetheless, this was one of the few shows made before the 21C that was actually good. If TWIN PEAKS was the first effort to move halfway beyond pre-21C tv idiocy, and the SOPRANOS the first to really take that lesson on board, this is one of the few from before all that to be worth the praise routinely given to works from the massively over-rated BBC.

Score based on distant memory. Director seems to have done nothing worthwhile once he got to Hollywood (including the remake of this series).
