1. Season

A tour de force performance by Jessica Lange, supported greatly by Susan Sarandon. An engaging story and drama of what may have been between these two aging starlets in the waning years of old Hollywood. If this doesn't get several Emmy's, I'll flip the table.

S2: amazing role by Tom Hollander! This show is more a vibe and acting artillery than a full fledged story with a beginning an end. There’s some Mad Men level episodes and some slightly more aimless ones. All in all a great watch with fantastic music by Julia Newman

Bette and Joan: 77, Capote vs The Swans: 44

Excellent mini-series. I want to watch it again, having finally seen the film.

Works best as an opportunity for Lange and Sarandon to engage in high-camp, soap opera bitchiness with each other; they are both great fun to watch, though any hope of searing insight into 60s Hollywood (and its stars) falls by the wayside pretty quickly, despite Murphy's clear pretensions. An excellent eye for casting makes all the support cast uniformly convincing; indeed the power of the performances makes the final episode quite moving, despite its contrived and artificial writing.

I should've really followed my first instinct, from over a year ago...; I'm just not that interested in the Hollywood lifestyle of the 60s & 70s. I didn't feel any connection with this show, not with the story nor with the characters. Even though I really like the great Jessica Lange. And I thought Sarandon's performance was very good.

Oh cool, even beautiful talented successful people die sad and alone.

Excellent. Complete series.

Good acting, but the story wasnt really engaging

Saw this and hated it, because I knew nothing about Crawford or Davis. Couldn't pick them out of a lineup for a million bucks. Then saw "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" (really liked it!) and then rewatched this. MUCH different experience! If you haven't already done so, make sure you do the same, watch "Baby Jane" first! Season 2: It was set up to be delicious revenge by the Swans on Capote...but that never happened?!? He just drunk himself into the grave. Big letdown.
