Frankenstein: The True Story

Christopher Isherwood winks at the audience all through this remarkable, classy reinterpretation of Shelley; meanwhile, a great cast plays it largely straight (pun intended -- Isherwood layered the script with homosexual themes and symbolism). Most atmospheric and lush, especially considering that this was a made-for-TV affair. Highly recommended to fans of horror literature.

Both more faithful and more out there than most adaptations. The biggest flaw with the film was its unnecessary length and the weak acting.

Score based on distant memory.

I dunno about "True Story", but remarkably good for a TV production
