Heidi Fleiss: Hollywood Madam

An insight into the lives of some crazy people. Probably Broomfield's best documentary.

The people interviewed contradict each others' accounts so much that I don't understand what all went down. I doubt that anyone else understands, either. What I can say is that this is a quite fascinating nonfiction portrait of a group of people who came from privileged backgrounds, have all kinds of money, and are some of the most screwed-up people you'll ever be glad not to know. If someone told me this wasn't a doc but instead an experimental neo-noir with a doc style, I'm not sure I wouldn't believe them. While trying to piece together the facts about how a high class prostitution ring works is an interesting part of the film, the biggest part is marveling at the things these people say and how they say them. At times they're brutally honest, at others ridiculously coy, and sometimes they just make shit up. It's a fascinating world full of strange broken people.
