Amazing introduction to the men behind the notes. Although very close-minded and focused on the early west coast, nearly completely ignoring modern artists (that is anything past the 70s), it still delivers in what it chooses to show.

It's ok and interesting enough for what it is, but, for something as long as this is, it really should be better. I don't really like Burns' focus on pivotal figures or his general style, and while I don't know much about jazz history it certainly smacks of bias and selective history. Still, what's there is interesting enough in its own right to be worth a look as long as you don't expect greatness or a truly comprehensive doc.

12 hours is not enough.

Adored the swing era, Louis Armstrong stuff. Once it switches to bop, hard bop etc. after WWII I lost interest.

Essential for all music fans.
