Based on seasons 1–2: the ELITE SQUAD films handled complex historical and political issues fairly deftly. This tries to do the same, but with far less success: the history is rewritten and the politics confused, and the rather soap operatic style tends to add another layer of distortion rather than effectively conveying the drama of the situation. In a way, the problem is of being not nearly cynical enough (about the events) but at the same time far too cynical (with respect to the audience).

so good, that it makes other tv series seem dull.

Score would be higher except for that both Escobar and the main American guy aren't sympathetic or relatable. Luckily Pena is, thanks to Pedro Pascal once again stealing the show - here's hoping he's the central law enforcement focus in S3. Music is phenomenal, as are Escobar's sweaters.

An outstanding series. It has quickly become one of my favorite series, and I can't wait for the next season. The command of tone is just impeccable. It deftly moves between comedy, action, and drama--and does each very well. It certainly takes liberties with the historical record, but it gets everything right big picture.

not bad at all. but something is missing, just like in 'elite squad's. i expect jose padilha to be more striking.
ps. this should have been a 8-10 episode mini serie, instead of neverending season one two bullshit.

it's ok. Good enough to commit to 2nd series? Nah. I also often think productions that excessively use explanatory voice overs assume Im retarded

The first two seasons are spectacular, the third is just okay. Couldn't hate this show since it reminded me of The Wire, but I don't like the idea of romanticizing the central and south american drug trade. I liked how authentic the show felt, made up for the artistic liberties it took.

This series created maybe one of the most interesting TV personalities of al-time; granted it is based on a real person but the Escobar of Narcos is something more than the Pablo Escobar, the drug lord. That alone makes it an all-time classic. Then, the whole story is a master class on how to handle real-life stories with its pacing, technical innovation, and an eerie capacity to recreate the Columbia of those days. Also, this series makes you understand what the term "Failed state" really means

Netflix's latino version of The Wire? Well acted and filmed it's often very very good. It does however lack in likable antagonists, so spending 8 hours with them can sometimes be frustrating.

Love that most of the show is in Spanish; and while you shouldn't pull your history from TV shows, I love the documentary-styled approach. Really puts you on the ground with the DEA.

I absolutely loved this show. Also if you watch it without subs you are forced to learn Spanish quickly.

Season One and Two: Exceptional, gripping stuff. Pablo Escobar is Walter White for those who appreciate a lack of humour and excuses. Season Three might be interesting... [Watched on Netflix]

S1: 50 | Pretty well made, although there’s a severe shortage of likable characters, which makes it hard to care about anything other than catching Escobar. Props to Pedro Pascal, who gives a solid performance as perhaps the only enjoyable character.

An interesting idea to mix real documented footage with acting, but in my opinion the show fails to encompass the contrast between the brutality and the humanity of Pablo Escobar. The show is in dire need of both likable antagonists as well as likable protagonists, and I feel that this show would have been better received had it come 10 years prior. Also season 2 is horrendously slow paced to the point of being unwatchable.

s1: very gripping and atmospheric. can't wait for season 2. s2: with its ups and downs, but I admired the study on the downfall of escobar that the second part of season 2 is and hell, wagner moura is fantastic. not really looking forward to season 3 though.

There is a lot of interesting stuff about this fascinating story that come through here but overall I was disappointed. That comes down to poor character development.I didn't feel emotionally engaged to any of the characters and the story was moving so fast that they didn't have time to breathe and have moments that establish their personality. And when you're not engaged with the characters of a show it's hard to be fully invested. It just feels like wasted potential more than anything.

A pretty catchy story with sometimes pretty annoying off-screen-texts and weak housewife characters about the biggest (and worst dressed) drug lord in world history, who rises to power by avoiding calling himself a communist.
