Preacher

Season one is an unintelligible mess, season two improves and by the time you're done with the third season you get a feeling they've gotten their heads out of their asses and started making a decent show. And then season four comes along and everything just falls apart into a stupid mess. The whole show is about violently raping the source material. Most of the roles are miscast, save for maybe Cassidy. So if you've read the comics, best avoid this. And if you haven't, read the comic instead.

First season was great - nice, slow, suspenseful pacing, the traditional 'Texas according to Hollywood' atmosphere, and a pleasantly morbid sense of humor. 8/10. Second season is generic TV fare with off-the-mark edgy humor and without any of the interesting worldbuilding. At least it still looks pretty good though. 5/10

As an adaptation it's on the same level as League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: just terrible. They raped the source material by stretching what should have been one episode into a whole season. Additionally, they changed characters and their motivations and in the case of the two leads (Jesse and Tulip) you also have to add terrible casting.

Having read the entire run of the comic series, I was hesitant to even watch this as it is a batshit crazy read. While details have changed (some for worse , some for better) the crazy manic yet slowed down pacing is somehow captured fairly often. Its not great yet but there are moments of greatness. especially towards the end of the initial season. Give it a shot. Update: score lowered to reflect season two, which was a struggle to get through at times. I will stick around for one more.

Riddled with technical & storytelling errors. Their whole apartment building is slaughtered, with 100 different individual break-in's but not those three - so they just keep living there and the police don't come by, they don't even ever talk about it. They're concerned about 1% of one person's soul, while everyone around them dies. A whole town included -again they're the sole survivors but nobody has any questions for them. Getting hard to look past.

There is something lacking in this, they couldn't catch the essence of the story somehow. As a TV production, it is not bad, if there are no comics behind it, the story is flowing and can go somewhere. But if you have read the comics back in the day, this is really not it (and not in a fanboy way, I didn't like Preacher that much even back then. But I must admit that it was something fresh). So much so that, after one season I didn't feel like continuing.

Humperdoo is a compelling character worthy of decades of analysis into the complex interworkings of his intellect.

It starts so good, but later seasons go somewhat down.

good series

If you wonder what it looks like when an absolutely insane comic book gets adapted properly into a TV series, look no further. Herr Starr and the Saint of Killers steal the show. Somehow Hitler is the best written character, which you can't say about many TV shows. Seasons 2-3 are sadly not on par with 1 and 4.
