If it just didn't have a laugh track, it would feel so much fresher.

The best modern situation comedy (complete with laugh track, in season 1 at least) out there. More complicated than you would expect,,, also a bit uneven. But it's still Sorkin. The female characters tend to be annoying, but I chalk that up to art imitating life.

There are moments that haven't aged well, on account of Sorkin trying to somewhat awkwardly meld his playwright sensibility to the sitcom format (the confused laugh track in season 1 sure don't help), but more often the rat-a-tat-tat dialogue just absolutely sings and is a pleasure to listen to, and certain scenes (such as the final scene of "The Apology") achieve emotion and power as great as just about anything I've seen on television. Very retro but worth the time investment for 45 episodes.

The beginnings of what would be one of, if not the most talented television writers in history. It isn't great, but it's solid.

[Complete] First season is severely affected by the absurd laugh-track (it's not the kind of series were it's even usual to see that tool, it's not a sit-com and it doesn't try to imitate comedy stage plays), fortunately producers stop that in second season. Quite interesting and you can see the seed of Aaron Sorkin future works. And you don't need to know or like sports at all, it's not really about sports, it's just a story that happens to be surrounded by sports.
