I've always loved Court/Stargirl in the comics, and this series does her justice. It's also one of the better made shows to come out of the whole superhero thing, which is surprising. It's definitely more true to the whimsical and cartoony fantasy nature of the comics rather than trying to be dark and gritty like the rest of The CW shlock.

Even though I have superhero fatigue and can hardly get excited for anything superhero related anymore I kinda dug this. Aspects of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, 2002 Spider-Man and Power Rangers all blended together. Kinda silly seeing all these people swing their magic staff and swipe claws and shoot crossbows and throw baseballs really hard at each other when, ya know, a fucking gun would work a lot better, but hey, it’s a cheery-cheesy superhero show; don’t overthink it.

As a big Geoff Johns fan, this really disappointed. "Family friendly" don't mean Pixar. Families may like this, but I FF & even skipped entire episodes. JSA fans will watch their faves replaced by kid heroes who are mostly saved by magical costumes. It's too padded & the problems play like modern Afterschool Specials. The budget's big but fight scenes often try to mimic impossible comic book physics which looks bad. The last episode was good bc it finally wraps up & it's got a good Johns twist.

Pretty solid first season. Good cast. I think some of the stories take things a little more cartoony than the other CW superhero shows, as Stargirl is a younger hero, but that does result in a nice change of pace. EDIT: Season 2 got a lot darker. In some ways it was good, but in other ways I thought the show felt too gloomy too often, and it was a bit of a turnoff. Overall the story was still good enough to keep watching, though.

Stargirl perfectly captures the goofy wonder of old-school superhero comics. The special effects are good and the actors all pull their weight. The biggest complaint is that early episodes feel a bit insubstantial, while later episodes feel padded with filler.
