I haven't seen Serial, was good enough as a standalone piece I suppose, but at this point, one becomes numb to potential judicial failures.

The storytelling on display does not match up to the Serial roots. It avoids feeling like a straight retelling/recap by incorporating discussion about the Serial podcast itself and exploring the developments in the years since Serial wrapped its investigation.

Fairly engrossing tale of yet another example of how America's legal system is broken, how conviction rates trump actual guilt or innocence. Whether or not you think he's guilty, it becomes clear that the prosecution did not actually prove their case, and now the higher courts are protecting the false conviction. Mostly avoids the pitfall of getting mired in details.

It's a nice companion piece to Serial, but the new information presented is probably not likely to change your mind one way or another. I would recommend for those who were captivated by Serial.

I did like Serial a lot at the time. After Serial and this, I don't know if Adnan murdered Hae or not, but this series exposes further the way the justice system works - or doesn't work at all. That part is actually maddening to me, all the politics, the lack of ethics in the police, the profiling, the valuing of optics and at the same time the devaluing of a human life. The justice system (everywhere) is fucked up.
