The First

The side character episodes and even some of the main character parts are a chore to get through, but I liked the father, daughter, and space company CEO interactions mostly. The future, sets and costumes are aggressively bland. Some world building and interesting space tech in every episode (even just in dialog) could have carried the slow parts.

I like the idea, and there's some good drama that occurs in the show, but the show dragged way too long before it got into the interesting stuff, which unfortunately seems to have killed it. Season 2 could have potentially improved things, but it will never be.

I kept watching this show with the hope that it would eventually turn around and that all of the character development they trudged through in the first season would have great payoff in season 2. And there's not going to be a season 2. So I feel a bit like I wasted time watching why amounts to an exploration of what the Mars adventure will be like on a personal level, before the adventure even happens.

Beautiful pictures, fascinating characters. And if that's not sci-fi, it's the next step, it's how we actually get to Mars, with all the knitty gritty political and personal struggles, the day to day tech issues and the visionaries to push us through all of that and get us out there
