This series serves as a great introduction to wrestling in those cheesy transition days when Vince McMahon the Younger had yet to figure out how to dominate and homogenize wrestling with his hyper-capitalism. From a legitimate wedding in the second episode to the later themed episodes, Saturday Night's Main Event serves as a likable cross-section of when wrestling had its greatest influence on pop culture.

At it's height the heels from this era stole the show. Savage, Hart, Piper etc. were either technical masters or larger than life personas, or both. However its horribly dated and incredibly cheesy. Nostalgia bonus points to the max.

Features a lot of classic matches, even if the talent on the show varied wildly. Some events were pretty good, others were pretty terrible. It's pretty hard to rate because the consistency of quality was different on each show. As far as specific matches go, I'd recommend you watch Jake The Snake vs Randy Savage, Mr. Perfect vs Tito Santana, Randy Savage vs Bret Hart and The Brianbusters vs The Rockers.

I'll give it this rating because the wrestling matches were all pure trash even the main story line ones where Hogan was fighting Andre. Good things about this show. Mean Gene Interviews were 1 min with said wrestlers in the back, Commentary with Jessie and Vince or who ever they changed that with but these guys were good. 20 sec recaps to tell you what's happening. Mid card talent to lower tier they deemed them as not important. Matches were garbage.
