Victor is a cook who works in a greasy bar/restaurant owned by his mother, Dolly. It's just the two of them, a waitress named Delores, and a heavy drinking regular, Leo. But things change when Callie, a beautiful college drop-out, shows up as a new waitress and steals Victor's heart. (imdb)

A unique movie about a group of people at a small town restaurant. Pruitt Taylor Vince has a standout performance in this movie. His character is deep without having many lines. Debbie Harry plays a sad small town waitress that you can see had big dreams but wasn't able to move past a certain point in her life. Liv Tyler is fantastic as always. She brings some beauty into this lifeless setting but she also has some darkness in her personality. I enjoyed every part of this movie.

Above-average small-town drama. Realistic, good performances all round, detailed characters. A little morose towards the end, but not so much as to blight all the groundwork that was put in. The standout film for Pruitt Taylor Vince and James Mangold.

Conventional and uninteresting drama. One of numerous directorial debuts that are over-praised at time of release, making possible a career that inevitably turns out to be less than stellar. In Mangold’s case, he seems to offer tantalising glimpses of something, but never really delivers.

Well-acted and edited small town drama in a minor key. Great on the minutiae of its setting.

This is a good independent film with strong performances by Liv Tyler, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Deborah Harry. This is a character driven piece which is not heavy on plot.

Giving clichés too much space and letting things breathe that don't need that much air. Probably would have been as effective in 80/85, if not more.
