This film brings together the stars of Gilda and a good deal of the plot from Notorious. It's not nearly as successful as either. A very middle-of-the-road example of the film noir genre. Hayworth belts out a couple of decent tunes, but otherwise she and Ford are pretty much sleepwalking through it. The plot is poorly thrown together, which wouldn't matter much if there was a little more sizzle in this film. Only a few scenes and lines leave a mark, otherwise it's rather mundane.

Rita Hayworth is sexy as hell, but the plot is pretty weak. A few quality lines though.

A wonderful intrigue noir with a great forlorn performance from Hayworth. Her first musical number wasn't so good, but the second one sizzles, doubly so given the plot junction at which it appears. The rest of the cast is solid, though they don't get much chance to shine. Mostly it's just a pretty tight script full of noir atmosphere that hits all the right notes even if it doesn't particularly excel at any of them.

The story is very by the numbers and Glenn Ford is well Glenn Ford, but it's Rita Hayworth who was the highlight here and does by far the acting in the film. The constant use of the film's theme started to get on my nerves a bit by the halfway point.

Hayworth plays the sex kitten, and the rest of the cast tries to save a non-action suspense plot that lacks drama. However, Hayworth does make it worth watching.

This had been a period where the studios wasn't putting Glenn Ford in many big pictures, and more often than not would put him in overly light vehicles that he clearly made better than they deserved to be, so it was nice to see them trust him for a bigger project. Up against Rita Hayworth, no less! And the two, perhaps Hayworth more than Ford, made this very watchable, even if it was a fairly cookie-cutter thriller. Was simply the personality they represented that was above everything else.
