Boarding School

So a bunch of parents decide to get some very late-term (about the 700 week mark) abortions by way of creepy Christian boarding school. I sympathize. There's some almost 70's style weird horror, but the whole thing is dragged down by a rushed plot, bad child-actors and lines of dialogue written by someone who has never heard a kid talk in their entire life. What a blessed life that writer must have lived.

This movie is so much better than I expected from the trailer and ratings. While watching it, I kept expecting it to take a step too far into weirdness, but while it is weird, you can almost make sense of it. Doesn't really deserve to be tarred with the horror label. More of a mystery with some horror aspects.

I had to go back and check my rating on "Get Out" to decide how to rate this, as that was the most similar thing I've seen recently. While the production wasn't nearly as good, and there were a lot of "wait, what?" moments, I did enjoy the movie more than "Get Out," so gave it an overall better rating. I thought all the main actors did a great job, but Sterling Jerins (No Escape, The Conjuring) was really the stand-out in this movie. The casting of Nadia Alexander as Phil was interesting.

Not a Horror "per se" and if you take it like that it is an interesting story that pays off at the end.

Buoyed by its sheer weirdness and the lead is a pretty impressive child actor, but ultimately there's something vacuous about this yarn. Like a sleepwalk through an American gothic mystery.

Not a generic movie, that's for sure.
