I've watched this movie a handful of times after only a year of finding it. It's a good movie to watch trippy as well as not ;)

I think kids could like it, in spite of the stiff animation and some of the horrifying designs/animation like the hamster or the liquid effects. It has some mechanical gigs with quasi-Minion robots, and interesting visuals in the dream world. The plot is sorta different and has a visually memorable last act. Adults might find a lot to find weird and creepy, like how psychotic the girls are, they're almost murdering each others. How oblivious the parents are...

Main character doesn't get along with her new step-sibling. They should have toned down the new step-sibling's antagonism because she was worse than the most dramatic drag Disney villains could ever hope to be. Completely cartoonish and unlikeable. But the worst offender of the movie is the LIQUID RENDERING. A stuff of nightmares, truly. The film didn't really utilize the vast possibilities of dream worlds. A bit of a letdown. :/

Animation is a little stiff. Execution on themes could use some improvement. The acting seems a bit stiff at times too, though I don't know how much of it can be attributed to translation. Minna is interesting as a character, as she transitions from protagonist to antagonist with her morality. The emotional themes don't hit as hard as they could. Worth a watch at least once. Overall OK film.

There's only minor adjustment which keeps this from being the emotional story it tries to be. All about how a young girl reacts to her new step-mom and step-sister moving in. And it has some good ideas, and if you're not too spoiled, give this a try. You might appreciate it.

Dreambuilders undeniably takes inspiration from Pixar's Inside Out, but with less contrived metaphor & personification. This film adds a 2nd girl to muddle the theme of dealing with a reluctance to adapt. While Minna is sympathetic, her actions are morally wrong, which brings about an interesting dynamic. At 80 minutes, the film is a little underdeveloped in both concept & execution, but still entertaining with a nice soundtrack. The ending comes close to being horror-adjacent.

Pixar wannabe that more or less succeeds.
