As a story about social constructs and class differences and taking advantage of the weak, it works pretty well. Somehow they felt the need to start introducing ridiculous supernatural elements, possibly to lure the younger streamers in, but like i often see these days they are completely disconnected from the main story and only star as clickbait.

Watching this movie is like doing your dishes. Once you started you go to the end. Big difference: washing your dishes leaves you with clean ones that you can use again, but watching this movies leaves you with nothing at all.

Not much horror in this drama about the lives the immigrants leave behind them. The horror elements are there to enhance the magical component of the main character's folklore but not a lot more. Still a rather good story

It starts promising -- reminded me a lot of the great Brazilian horror The Good Manners -- but slowly gets uneven and undercooked paths as the horrors starts to swallow Anna Diop's character in her quest to make it in NY while waiting for her son to arrive. Finale is disastrous. Diop's performance is the only true good thing to see here.

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, Nikyatu Jusu's directorial debut is a psychological horror, fantasy film with good acting performances and great cinematography. A story more unsettling than compelling with complicated ideas of dreams, motherhood and immigration. A movie with more water than blood and the score is much scarier than the visuals. "Nanny" has very tame horror elements, is not scary or disturbing and in the end fails to really haunt the viewer.

1 annenin dramı. New York'a taşınan siyahi annemiz, oğlunu Senegal'de bırakır. Bu arada iş olarak çocuk bakmaktadır. Bakıcımız, ilginç ruhani işaretler ile korkulu anlar yaşar. İyi 1 öykü. Ama çok bayık be. Anna Diop'da güzel. Gereksiz uzatmalar yapılmış. Filmin sonunda, oğlumuz boğulmuş. Dertler derya olmuş. Bense 1 sandal. Devrilip batmışım. Boğulmuşum ben.

"Nanny" is a standout in the social horror genre, calling into question the way minorities are often left out of the American Dream. While the integration of supernatural elements could be improved, the film's daring direction and Diop's peerless performance make it a must-see. Despite its flaws, "Nanny" is a dark and distressing deconstruction of the myth of the American Dream.

I was eagerly awaiting Nanny after receiving critical acclaim, but it turns out a huge disappointment for me. In fact, to be honest, I think it would have potential if it had chosen to be a plain drama rather than supernatural elements. Anna Diop's performance is great, but this movie is simply not my cup of tea.
