The last minute 'big surprise' is a piece of turd, but it didn't ruin the rest of this wicked and nice debut feature from Paul Bartel.

A sexy but naive girl runs away from home and ends up staying in a sleazy motel owned by a distant aunt, where she encounters all kinds of kinky perverts. It's got weird sex dolls, a gay priest, cross-dressers, voyeurism...some pretty far out there stuff for 1972. All the creepy leering eventually leads to murder and a pretty bloody finale. Makes a great companion piece to flicks like 'The Sentinel' (1977) or 'Shivers' (1975).

An even more bizarre updating on the "Psycho" genre of horror. Way more fun and seedier tho. The hotel has a great look to it.

Having just watched Eating Raoul and understanding the humour Bartel was going for but not really feeling it was my type of movie was surprised how much i vibed with this one. But it's much more my kind of weird. A fucked up Peeping Tom

Good horror. Another illustration of the often-overlooked fact that sex is funny as hell

One of the few films I never could quite understand no matter how many times I watch it. The ending just doesn't make sense. That doesn't and shouldn't deter from from this otherwise wonderful, and gripping, film 'though. Enjoy this like a Where's Waldo that you just can't solve.

The most boring neurosis I have ever seen.

Fairly weird and amusing, but the ending is just stupid.
