What starts as an interesting sci-fi/horror mystery ends up becoming an exploration of documentary filmmaking, which was definitely not where I saw it going. I was iffy about it when the shift started, but it regained my interest. These guys do quite a bit with very little and have an exciting vision that makes their movies memorable. This is a step up from The Endless in storytelling and acting.

Beautiful, creative, original. Very cool low budget sci-fi.

Aaron/Justin have FINALLY revealed the truth! i.e. the real meaning of their films. Ready? Here it is: The deeper meaning is.... 100% NOTHING! For those who filled up countless Reddit pages telling us what Endless & Resolution means, the joke's on you. Dirt reveals there was NO answer. Rather, just two guys having a blast making films & smirking at their audiences struggling for meaning. I think it's a relief. I knew everyone was wrong! Lesson: learn to watch movies and just enjoy!

Was expecting a bit more existential sci-fi and a bit less mundane bickering, but it's an interesting watch nonetheless

I watched a third of this before realizing that the two leads were the actual writer/director team. After that revelation it took on a Covid project and I just never got all the way on board. Got too meta in my opinion but I think it's neat they wanted to make their own version of The Imposter. These guys are making movies the way Documentary Now! is doing their episodes. I think they just have a pile of ideas and they grab two and then figure out what genre it should be and then mix in another.

"I want all these threads to add up. But there's just more threads." OK, at this point I'm going to need Benson & Moorhead to interview Quentin Dupieux and vice versa, because I'm pretty sure the recording of that interview would actually divide the universe (or at least LA) by zero.

I think I'd have to watch this a second time because I am an idjit and I didn't entirely get what was happening here. It is one of those movies that you look up online after watching it to see what kind of theories other people had about the events. It just felt very open to interpretation and that is not a bad thing. It's more about how much thought you want to put into a film during/after watching it.

i love these directors. This was like a ghetto house of leaves. I would love to see it not ghetto

Don't waste your time with this.I expected creative and original science fiction. But what I watched was a meandering script that feels like a patchwork of ideas, all of which go nowhere, with a few boulders floating around.

Is there something in this dirt, though?

The slow unveiling of self-conscious irony as it progressed meant that each pseudo-documentary 'reveal' deconstructed and undermined the narrative until there was intentionally nothing left. The result felt jaded and bleak - like a more sophisticated version of the 'it was all just a dream' cliché rather than a modern Foucault's Pendulum.

I came out of this one a little disappointed. Resolution was great, and I loved The Endless even more, so I was hoping I'd see that universe fleshed out further, but this one mostly just featured surface-level references. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but I'm also pretty sure this was a covid movie, and the ending message of "Making movies with your friends is just the best!" came across a little hollow when the main characters repeatedly bickered and seemed to hate each other.

2022'de #IzlediğimFilmler ; 317. Something in the Dirt (2022) @AaronMoorhead ve @JustinHBenson 'dan yine muazzam bir iş. Sinemaya aşkım büyüyorsa bu 2 dahinin katkısı yadsınamaz. İyi ki varsınız!

Original, entertaining and thought provoking, but the meandering philosophizing, secretive personalities, and unsolvable mysteries left me wanting more of something, or at least more focus. This may become a cult classic.
