Plays better than the single perspective editions. So if you wondering which film to watch, I'd say start here. But really, you're better off skipping this project entirely. I've been waiting for this for a long time, hoping for something new and fresh, but it turned out to be the exact opposite. Watching all three films should, however, hold an interest for those curious about the craft of editing.

A hipster project calculated beyond reason disguised as a serious moving film about very intelligent adults with real problems. A few good scenes is far from enough.

'Her' is pretty solid, especially since the focus is on Chastain's exceptional performance. 'Him' doesn't add a particularly edifying perspective, and 'Them' is not worth watching at all. Benson writes some of the worst dialogue I've heard in recent memory. The movie the trailer seemed to promise, one which compared different versions of the same moments side-by-side, would have intrigued me more than any of these.

Watched for Chastain. Was not disappointed.

I skimmed Them afterwards. I merely watched this out of a curiosity for editing, and partly because I'm a completionist. Him is filmed through a blue filter, Her through a yellow and that's about the difference when put side-by-side. Them attempts to build a cohesive narrative from both film, and while shorter, it still suffers from the problem of Him and Her. In Him and Her the prefect balance of ambiguity and resolution was struck with both coalescing endings. Them delivers no satisfaction.

Shitty dialogues as if taken from a college essay and two hours of boredom guaranteed.

The "Them" package is far less intriguing than the His/Her package that will likely never see commercial release. McAvoy and Chastain are brilliant, as is Benson's subtle and realistic script. It can be a slog at times, but its destination makes it worth it and tolerable thanks to the cast (except you Bill Hader...you suck).

Seriously who writes this kind of dialogue? A 15-year-old high school wannabe writer? God, I love 15-year-olds and people with literary ambitions, but this film I did not. I can't decide if Chastain/ McAvoy chemistry works, because I am constantly reminded of the fact that I watch a work of fiction and these are paid actors and such. Because of the writing. I loved the tour around NYC and the classrooms in New School (it was NS, wasn't it?),but the film was a total mess.

Some of the parts were very intriguing, and then some other parts were like watching paint dry. The romantic scenes were the most interesting and fascinating. With the two separate perspectives, I was drifting in and out. The two sides were uneven, there were more things that I felt needed to be elaborated on, and in my personal opinion, taking two short films and merging them to create a 2-hour movie resulted in a jumbled narrative, which was OK overall, but I expected more.

I thought the movie worked very well in its truncated form, though I would have liked to have seen both parts. The cast is really excellent, especially Chastain.

I was not very impressed. Spoiler: a couple is not very mature or practical and they cannot handle a tragedy that unfolds in their relationship.
