Women In Prison
A Collaborative collection created by Shmendrek
"A subgenre of the exploitation film, these films feature imprisoned women who are subjected to sexual and physical abuse, typically by sadistic female prison wardens. 99 women, directed by Jesus Franco in 1969, is widely considered to be the first conventional WIP film, although WIP films were being produced as early as the 1930s. Some directors of WIP films, such as Jonathan Demme, have gone on to achieve commercial success. (Note: This does NOT include films which simply feature women in a prison environment. It refers to a very specific type of exploitation film.) "
