90 65% The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015) - Rated 26 May 2017
"This is the last movie in the series, so expectations were high. I felt a little disappointed by the relatively little amount of action and the pacing...it just seemed so slow. I hadn't read the books, so the climax was great, and the ending was nice, but kind of meh."
99 83% The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) - Rated 26 May 2017
"This was, unsurprisingly, just as well-written and -acted as the first two movies. The only problem I had with this one was the casting of Julianne Moore as President Coin--her acting was so wooden, and she just didn't make a convincing leader. I haven't mentioned in my previous reviews, but Woody Harrelson is surprisingly good in this series. He has a lot more range than I'd seen before."
100 92% The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) - Rated 26 May 2017
"As with the first "Hunger Games," this had a good cast, script, and pacing. It made me look forward to the next one."
100 92% The Hunger Games (2012) - Rated 26 May 2017
"I'd seen some other movies based on dystopian teen sci-fic and was disappointed, but this was the first of its genre in recent years. Well-written, well-acted, and really gripping stuff."
90 65% Beauty and the Beast (2017) - Rated 26 May 2017
"Loved the costumes, choreography, story, visuals, and most of the songs. I was pleasantly surprised by other singing voices too. I liked the new songs as well as the old, but felt that the old songs on the animated version were sung better. Emma Watson makes this really great."
65 18% Burnt (2015) - Rated 25 Oct 2016
"Very intense drama centered on Bradley Cooper's character as a chef. It's more about him and the life of a chef, so while there's food, of course, it's not the focus of the film. It's not like Jon Favreu's "Chef," which made the food as much a character as anything else, and made you crave what was on the screen. Cooper is excellent, as always, and Sienna Miller and Daniel Bruhl are good as well. The story was not what I was looking for in a film, but it's ok if you like these actors."
95 77% Frozen (2013) - Rated 13 Feb 2016
"Very enjoyable musical with strong, main female characters--a rarity in film in general, including animation. Kudos to Disney for creating a global hit--I've enjoyed listening to kids singing "Let It Go" in different languages, and I enjoyed the amalgamated multi-language version as well."
85 52% The Gift (2015) - Rated 13 Feb 2016
"Mostly predictable, but very creepy nonetheless, due to Joel Edgerton's performance. It was also interesting to see Jason Bateman play kind of a bad guy for once."
80 41% Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) - Rated 13 Feb 2016
"Action-packed, yes. Fun, yes. But why was Padma just standing around, during the whole movie, doing nothing but being pregnant? I would have expected much, much more from a character who was quite fierce in Episodes I and II."
80 41% Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) - Rated 13 Feb 2016
"I actually enjoy the more recent episodes, and this was no different--which is not to say it was not without its faults. Ewan MacGregor is still great, Christopher Lee and Ian McDiarmid still creepy. Samuel L. Jackson is usually a great actor, but just doesn't seem to fit in the Star Wars universe. There was no chemistry between Natalie Portman (still wooden) and Hayden Christiansen."
