12 Monkeys takes the film's premise and sends it down the rabbit hole. The characters and the plot-lines keep the show interesting. It's somewhat less gritty (or Gilliam-esque) which I enjoy, and Stanford is a more charismatic Cole than Willis was. Four seasons that come together brilliantly in the end. There are hilariously fun episodes, followed by delightfully convoluted ones, all leading to a pay-off that is well-constructed and satisfying. An exemplar time-travel series. Hampshire is great.

Even if you don't compare this series to the movie, there are so many cliches and awful acting that even if there are good ideas here, it's hard to actually care. Pretty unwatchable as is typical of SyFy original movies.

I think this show probably went on too long for me. Repeating motifs and themes and I watched over a long period of time that I can't really scrutinise any details. Except many fighting scenes, though well choreographed generally gave the leads copious amounts of plot armour and convenient survival points. James and Cassie were *okay* leads, but I more enjoyed Jennifer and Deacon and Katarina. I never get emotionally attached to them. Probably because as the series started it was too predictable

2003: one of the best in time travel genre

Saw the initial episode. Seems so superficial. I can't see this improving, so I'm done putting myself through this.

The first season is a mix of some good introductory elements and others that are overused almost to the point of seeming superficial. The characters and plot develop well as it goes on although at times with some oversights, plot holes, and some scenes out of tune with the cohesion of the plot so they seem to be placed more for an audience need.

S01, S02

There are few series that have a complete ending but this is one of them. What a ride! Definitely recommended.

okay series

It's really a fun show despite of all the cheasyness and inconsistencies. Don't expect anything and you'll be rewarded. Characters stepping out of character starting at season 2 get annoying sometimes, but it pays to watch through. In the end it's good fun and nothing more.

The first and last season are really good. The two seasons in between are average with a few great moments and episodes. Get over the fact that it's not the movie, and give it a chance. The characters start weak but grow up on you fast. The plot is confusing throughout most of the series, but as it unravels a lot of it starts to make sense, until the grand ending that explains everything. Worth watching all of it.

surely not going to compare with movie...unconventional concept of time travel. guess it is ridiculous. it just cannot work that way ;]

brilliant, even other youtubers say that after breaking bad only this comes close, this show did jolt me strongly the day i started it, its amazingly written

I fucking love 12 Monkeys! Great rewatchability.

It's not too bad a reimagining of the film's scenario, but overall my position would have to be to stick with the film.
