While the war action may be a bit on the light side, and simply not done very well, the source material is something that is simply impervious to tarnish. Borgnine is a treat and all the other players are servicable at worst. It could have stayed a bit closer to the book, but other than that I have no complaints.

decent battle scenes, and the cast works well enough, however the limits of the made-for-tv medium are abundantly visible. overall feels like a broken paced series of vignettes rather than a cohesive, moving narrative.

Very faithful remake - although filming and film acting knowledge is more advanced now. If the dates were different I would have said Ernest Borgnine's role was written for him.

A big-budget TV remake of the 1930 masterpiece starring John Boy. Nowhere near the original's quality.

IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE BUT THE ENDING WAS BAD...

The story is good, but having read the book first, I was sorely dissapointed. A lot of elements that were hard to translate to movie went missing, or were rendered incompletely. Besides this, for me it was weird to see British playing Germans fighting French. I enjoyed Borgnine, and the movie brought its message across without moralising, which I liked.

Not nearly as good as the version from 1930, but still serviceable. Plus, it has The Borgnine.
