Just misses out on something good. It's alright, you could do worse, but it's forgettable (which based on the premise it shouldn't be) other than a few laugh out loud moments that really hit. Probably canceled after a season or two. - Second Season is actually funnier than the first. Still think it will be cancelled.

Lots more going on here than people are giving credit for. It’s no ‘The Thick of It’ or ‘Veep’ that’s for sure, but it just about hits its beats. It labours through the first half of S1 at times, but clicks as it gets toward its finale. As soon as that airlock scene happened it had won me over.

Seems like it has every necessary component to be hilarious, but never rises to the occasion.

It's fine. The characters all suck in mostly unlikable poorly written ways but it's ok brainless fun led by Hugh Laurie doing a role where he can switch between his accents.

In a galaxy far, far away, comedic mastermind Armando Iannucci turns out to be about as funny as a feces-leaking space ship.

I so wanted to love this... A tragic misfire. Poor Rebecca Front gets the worst of it, I'm afraid... she has done some really great work in past Iannucci projects, but here she is restricted to acting overbearing and sounding shrill. Hugh Laurie just looks embarrassed to be there most of the time.

Avenue 5 boasts an impressive cast, but lacks the punchiness present in Iannucci's other much-loved works. Initially there's a definite lack of focus or drive, the characters already feel caricatured, and the situations are a little tepid. All this improves by the end of the 1st season, and I'm looking forward to see where it goes.

Sure, the cast could stand to lose 4 or 5 principle players, but the rest of the main characters are strong and uniquely funny. This is a great role for Hugh Laurie, and Zach Woods is hilarious. Even Josh Gad, who usually rubs me the wrong way, is quite funny here. Production design and original score are above what was strictly necessary, and I appreciate that a fair amount of the humour is derived from the sci-fi conceit and not just witty banter amongst the characters as it could have been.

Sadly terrible. Tries to hard and misses the mark. I spent most of the first 5 episodes cringing, hopong it would get better, before giving up.

Well acted, terrible writing. Not funny, but occasionally vaguely amusing. It has all the complexity and humor of a video compilation of groin kicks.
