Eddie Murphy Delirious

'I guess you just put your dick in it and explode!'

Remember when Eddie Murphy was funny? Those were the good old days. This is Eddie at his peak, even the stuff about gays is okay because he does it without a trace of hatred in his voice. So many classic bits... ice cream man, Uncle Gus and Aunt Bunny, Michael Jackson. There are a few parts that have lost their lustre after a few viewings, but for a lot of it I was laughing my butt off.

Definitely the superior of Murphy’s two concert films, there are still some gaps in his material, but he emerges far more centred and likable here than RAW, as its clear he is still hungry and trying to prove himself, with only the vaguest whiff of the cocky arrogance that would occasionally make him difficult to take in the 80s. His impressions are the highlight, especially a bang-on Jackson, and the fall down the stairs is a genuinely inspired, hysterical bit of out-of-character silliness.

I thought this was pretty hilarious. Murphy really does have some of the funniest stand-up I have watched. It did take a bit of a pause for me, but I started laughing my butt off again.

Potentially offensive material notwithstanding, it goes without saying that Murphy's "Delirious" is a must-see stand-up special from the man in his prime.

It's genuinely unbelievable how phenomenal a comedian Murphy was in the '80s. His stage presence is utterly magnetic and his material is still potent now.

Some of the material fails to stand the test of time, but there's no denying the prowess of Murphy in this special. Seriously, what the hell happened to this guy that went from this all the way to Norbit?!?

I laughed, Mutphy's really good at weaving all the jokes together and has pretty good timing on his delivery. Standup doesn't really do it for me though, particularly something where half of it is outdated and rather simplistic or offensive.

Very funny. I enjoyed it much more than "Raw".
