Wonderfully shot, but it's just not my cup of tea. A very thin story line with some cliché twists.

Initial thoughts 4 episodes in, is its stylish and harsh and has a lot of penis. That being said, its definitely not boring, I just worry the long term longevity of constant degeneracy will wear thin pretty quickly.

It has everything I love; Sex, drugs, violence, psychopaths, lesbians, glitter, and manages to also be beautiful and interesting. It combines realism and fantasy so perfectly. God, I love it.

s1: 85 Guilty pleasure ultra. A hyper-realized highschool drama that is absolute eye candy. I'm into this. s2: 55 A complete and utter fumble

Ahhh, to be young and already broken inside... Euphoria is so visually pleasing and stylish and all of the characters are wonderfully realized. Jules is a freaking vision, I think I fell in love with her. "The Trials and Tribulations of Trying to Pee While Depressed" has to be the best title of a TV episode ever, and said depicted trials were so relatable, depression-wise. Each episode focuses on a character - it's been done before, but it's really well done here and empathy inducing.

There are some interesting ideas here that are undercut by the showrunner's incessant desire to "shock and awe the normies." I mean how often must we get a rehash of the Decadent Movement, with a fresh coat of paint (now a Zoomer hue)? Yeah, I guess it's cool that it penetrated popular consciousness, but considering HBO's steady procession into taboo topics, this just seems like a natural consequence of plenty of other attempts "epater la bourgeoisie."

Works better as lurid soap opera than meaningful social commentary, and its tendency to fly schizophrenically from character to character is frustrating at times; as it beds in and settles down, it does become more compelling, especially when exploiting Zendaya's quite wonderful performance, a mix of droll self-mockery and genuinely heart-breaking tragedy (her stand-alone solo episode is a brilliant highlight). If its grasp finally defeats its reach, its still a worthy experience.

I feel like I would have loved this at 16, or even enjoyed it at 23, but I'm 29 and this feels indulgent and kind of creepy. I don't think it's really okay for adults to be invited to be so involved in the sex and personal lives of highschoolers, even in a very entertaining and intelligent way.

Very, very dark. Reminds me of Divines (2016).
