good story line but the narrator really pissed me off

The title and the premise may make you think it is a stupid rom com, but you would be mistaken. I enjoyed this show a lot, interesting characters, good lgbt representations, and it doesn’t have all the misogyny that we come to expect from this type of media.

It comes off as lighthearted, but the constantly twisting plot is a novella. Several beautiful women. I enjoyed Gina Rodriguez as Jane. Yael Grobglas was also very entertaining as the incredibly beautiful wide-eyed gold digger. Entertaining and interesting but also quite silly. There was a lot of narration and spoken Spanish and some God nonsense. Worthwhile. The longer you watch, the more it feels like a soap opera. Bringing Michael back in season 5 was so bogus.

I wanted so much to like this, but the grating self-awareness turned me off. Also how hard is it for shows about Latinx people be run by Latinx creators, like the great Vida?

I love the story, characters, romance, humor, magical realism. All five seasons were amazing.

Yeah. Perfect score. This show has my heart and soul. It has no right to work as well as it does, and yet, the whole blending of genres plus absolutely staying true to the emotional honesty of the characters, it's one of the best thing out there. Straight out of a telenovela, right? Also a very authentic depiction of trying to be a writer these days. And beyond the many nuanced and amazing female characters, the show also has super refreshing views on masculinity. Gina is a TREASURE.

Funny, deliberately over the top, heart warming and fun. Sure, it's not a mindblowing tv-series, it's a quirky soap, but it works. It's something else and that's mainly to do with the funny narrator, charm, and the acting skills (or even just that smile) of Gina Rodriguez who plays Jane. A charming and fun show.

It certainly has some funny moments. The narrator can be really grating, though. Sometimes I like how self-aware it is, but other times it can be annoying and I couldn't really tell you why.

More likable than you'd think given the unfortunate title and initial premise. It's definitely a soap, but one with a modest level of charm and personality. Gina Rodriguez is great in the title role. Justin Baldoni is much less great as her romantic interest, so generically good-looking he becomes super boring.
