Love On The Spectrum

It's hard to articulate just how sweet this is. Comparing these folks to the autistic people I know in the US really shines a light on how much better adjusted people on the spectrum can based on the expectations we set for them. And I seriously love Jodi Rogers, what an absolute gem. Finally, I really love this style of "reality tv" that is more documentary-like as opposed to trying to drum up the most outrageous drama it can. S2 edit: Somehow it gets even better.

I've met people less composed and not as articulate as these folks. I am simply in awe at the care their parents had for them and how they got them socially integrated. This is actually the biggest breakthrough here, how adjusted they actually are. Love is hard to find for everybody because it is just another fleeting life experience out of the many we will go through, hopefully not alone and not miserable.

The show is adorable and I can appreciate its earnest respect for the people it features. On some level it is amusing to watch how incredibly awkward these people are in real life social situations, but the show never frames this in a way that's derogatory and at least attempts to understand them. I guess part of the enjoyment for this show is based on how much you tolerate these sorts of people, but on a personal level, I do at least think its existence has value.

I appreciate the tastefulness and good will the show portrays its participants in. Everyone is likable and especially the parents are adorable and have an enviable attitude towards life. Great role models all around.
