You know why I hate these black people pity parties? Because it is like getting stuck with that colleague who complains about work. Initially, you agree. But then she keeps going, meticulously stating every single example she can think of, when she had you at hello. Meanwhile you are sitting there in your lit pentagram with the blood of an infant streaming down your face, wondering when she's done so you can start the Satan summoning ritual you came for.

a.k.a. "The Desperately Sad Racism Monster Show". What was your favourite part of "Back to the Future"? Was it when Marty went back in time with his father to watch his grandfather beat the shit out of his young father when he was a kid and they stood there together and cried about it? No? You mean you wouldn't want to see that? Every episode is like "Roots" and they just throw in a monster to eat someone while white people are killing black people in the street. How entertaining.

I almost feel provoked by the usage of Lovecrafts name to promote this serie that is more like a cheezy indiana jones and stephen king mixture. I hardly recognice anything from the cthulhu mythos or the desolation thematics of Lovecraft. Also, the afro american revenge theme is obviously an important one, but in this pulp format it mostly becomes ridicolous.

Bland moron Jordan Peele exacts his revenge on avowed racist H.P. Lovecraft: the world's first major Lovecraft adaptation has nothing Lovecraftian about it.

Dropped at ep 3 since it didn't hold onto the premise of ep 1.

A novel blend of pulp horror and social commenting, that, when it works is quite something, and when it doesn't becomes a bit cringe. The final episode is downright bad, but otherwise, wellplayed and wonderfully gory throughout, with some decent scares here and there.

A fucking mess that's an anthology, but not really an anthology, got Lovecraft in the title, but not really Lovecraftian, about an overarching magical horror story, but really that takes a backseat to exploring race, sexuality, gender and intersectionality issues to the point that the metaphor overpowers the narrative. In my mind doubly suffers because of the existence of another recent HBO show, Watchmen, that delved into some of the same topics in a much more fluid, entertaining way.

Definitely not what I was expecting but it still has some kinda a mix of cheesy B movie charm and serious messaging.

The overall story arch is a bit undercooked and falls flat at the end, but individually most episodes are quite good and unique. A refreshing series with mostly cool characters, but the writing could have been tighter.

Dramatically wobbly anthology series does get better (and more engrossing) as it proceeds, especially once the various story threads start to lock together; highlighted by the Asian flavoured segment, and packed with some unsettling scares in the back end (especially the demon pursuit), it's just a shame that its social messaging is far too clunkily didactic and heavy-handed to be effective; some subtlety would have helped. Fine performances all around help keep things on track.

Could have been improved by dropping some of the less focused episodes, mainly the ones where the mother character messes with time. I feel compelled to reward the show for being unashamedly political.
