Maron is funny, but it just lacks a little polish and almost succinctness of some of the bigger (or more crowd pleasing) acts around. But even with that it's still a lot better than most out there, just it has the potential to be better.

It's nice to listen to Marc outside of the podcast. I've listened to it on and off for a while but never really stayed with it because its not particularly funny. He does great interviews, but rarely do I find myself having a nice deep laugh. This special, particularly the first half, delivers on that. Marc probably won't resonate with everybody, but fuck was that first 45 brilliant.

Maron is not only my favorite comedian, but a personal hero of mine, so maybe I'm a little bit biased when I say that this special is absolutely amazing, but I think everyone can recognize the incredible way in which he uses comedy as a means to understand himself and the world around him. Beautiful stuff.

I think Marc Maron really has the potential to be one of the greats. He's very close but still not quite there yet. Thinky Pain sort of stumbles around unstructured which never allows Maron to get into any sort of real rhythm. Most of the laughs are sporadic and sometimes lost in the endless pit of vocabulary and detail of the lead up. I think if he were to take the exact same material then rearrange it and polish it up a little bit more this could have easily got another 10-15 points.

I love Maron. I love this special. I find it the perfect balance between funny and thoughtful. He's the type who gets better with age.

As a semi-regular listener of WTF, I feel I have a sense of who Marc Maron is, which is why it's so wonderful to see him transcend it on stage. The only thing that didn't work for me was the discussion at the end, where Maron seems oblivious to the discomfort of his two friends. I mean, they were probably nervous about being on camera, but it does make him look like a narcissist.

A very intelligent and entertaining stand-up show.

The first half is brilliant. The 2nd half is hit or miss. Really struggles because of how loose and free form it is. But to be fair, that is what makes it stand out from other specials.

Fairly smart (although probably not as much as Maron thinks it is) introspective stand up set with regular laughs.

Marc Maron is a smart guy with lots of potential, but he is exactly the kind of person who likes to keep it for himself. 'Thinky Pain' story was excelent, he nailed it there. Most of this show was unfocused and delivery just wasn't as good as it should have been. Perhaps if he came prepared...
