I hated everything about this and seeing all the high scores for this Game of Thronesy Shit In Space Which Never Feels Star Trekky just makes me feel old and depressed. A lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Really did try to give this a fair shake, but it felt like getting repeatedly spit in the face. Has that faux-woke air of trying to finding fault in its own history to be "modern" so it demeans or retcons everything that made *what it is based on* worthy of renown and appraisal, and does so lazily, which is a different level of hurt. A whole show focusing on the negative instead of the positive, which is as anti-Trek a mood as possible.

Please note that this is only based on the first season and I will not watch any more. Everything about this is wrong. The fact that it bears the title Star Trek is theft at best and slander at worst. This is a dark nightmare land where bad writing is the norm and there are no moral debates to be had because everything is constantly blowing up and everyone is screaming at each other. Gene Roddenberry is spinning so fast in his grave that his corpse might form the first warp engine.

[Based on 11 episodes] As a life long fan, this is so terrible that I'm personality insulted. It's like a TV version of ID4 resurgence with TNG sound effects and more clichés than you can imagine possible in 46 minutes. Terrible performances. Boring unlikable Mary Sue that never loses lavished with praise. watch The Orville instead. Update for S2: it's even WORSE. lt. mary sue saved the day 4 times in 45 minutes, continuity errors and basic logic problems throughout. i'm gonna start drinking.

So many cliches and tropes. The technology is supposed to be ten years before Kirk era but is light years ahead of TNG. Watch The Orville instead.

I unashamedly love this version of Star Trek. 2 seasons in, it's bridging the gap between the old & the new. The pace is faster; the characters more intentionally flawed; the Klingons... different. The designs, effects & action are all noticeably higher budget which works. Old Trek may have been more cerebral, but it often came across as grandstanding. While Disco hasn't yet encountered that problem, it has delivered fun characters, compelling drama and good sci-fi. The writing in S04 nosedives.

I don't mind that Discovery tries to do its own thing. I do mind that it feels unfaithful to the predecessor works- which, on a continuity line, will happen in the future unless we're talking an alternate reality. Why the wrinkled grape Klingons? That said, it's got wonderful graphics. It tries too hard to address the lack of action in other shows and so it hurts the philosophical pensiveness for which Trek is known. Worst of all, most characters in here are just unlikable.

This is so painful to watch. Feelings, feelings everywhere. Even the computer develops feelings. It's a goddamn soap opera. Who ever wrote this crap should be dumped in a big black hole. What a waste.

The problem with this one is that it is not Star Trek at all. Star Trek is supposed to be light-hearted and optimistic about the future of mankind. This show is dark and not just in mood. The lead characters' morality is questionable at best. So far every captain we've seen were role models for leaders. The characters here are flawed. Very flawed. In the end they tried to give us something so new that they forgot that they need to be Star Trek as well.

All in all, after more than 10 years of waiting for a new Trek TV show we can be happy. Instead of nitpicking and finding mistakes all the time lets appreciate the fact that they started this new Trek show with great style. Visuals are awesome, story pacing is great and season as whole is well rounded. Characters are well developed and have good story arcs and ending is a great tease for all who love Star Trek. I wouldnt be far from truth If I sad this is the best first season of a Trek show.

Isn't Starfleet a military-type thing? Why is it populated entirely by high school drama club prima donnas and cowboys? Fortunately, I like Trek just enough to give this the benefit of the doubt, but not so much to be much bothered by the multitude of minor heresies here. I'll probably pass on season 2.

As a huge Trekkie the continuity issues make my fingers itch, I could complain about it all day. It's also so inconsistent in every respect. Some of the cast are great, some of the themes are great, some of the episodes are great, but on the flip side some of all of the previous are frustratingly poor. Early seasons are easier to get on with, but as it has gone on the saccharine emotion, lack of character development and inconsistencies have become frustrating. S1:70, S2:71, S3:59, S4:50, S5:64.

Not my Star Trek, man, just not it. Burnham is such an uninteresting nothing of a character - with the same applying to all the cast except Saru. Season 4 shows me a glimmer of hope, but it’s not worth getting there. And Picard is even worse......

They never just have an encounter and approach it with intellect. They're always saving the entire universe on a passionate whim. With thick makeup on. And every episode begins and ends with tender snuggles and whispered sentimentality.

The first couple of seasons show us some pretty good space fantasy action. Drop the canon though, this is Star Trek only by name for the most part. Later seasons are an abomination though. Not sure why Michael whispers that much, probably lost her voice from constant crying. Anyway, first two seasons can be watched as a whole and my rating is for those. Ignore the later seasons, really no need to watch that and ruin a good show for yourself.

I appreciate the feature film quality production values, but this Trek is a bit dark for me. I miss the TNG humour. Enjoyed the twist, but...well...it's okay. Found myself surfing the Internet and "half-watching" about half-way through season 2. Not a good sign. It's like a movie that will never end. Honestly I barely know anything that's happening or what anyone is talking about anymore. A couple of episodes to go but 2 seasons and done for me.

Despite receiving criticism for straying from the classic tone of the franchise, Star Trek: Discovery has managed to achieve something few series can: reinventing itself season after season without losing its essence. Instead of clinging to nostalgia, it boldly pushes forward — in both time and narrative — with a courageous focus on action, suspense, and a more war-driven atmosphere than other Trek entries. And for me, it really works. One of its strengths lies in its pacing. Discovery doesn’t

The visual effects in Star Trek: Discovery are titillating, but everything else about the show is unbearable. Homosexuals are overrepresented, and the plots are developed slowly and ridiculously. I bailed long, long ago.
