Stargate Universe

BSG is showing it's influence. SGU never managed to escape the shadow of its weaker first season. Unfortunately a stellar second season is left at the universe of all cliffhangers (or should I say galaxy-hangers).

Comfortably the best thing in the Stargate canon. Well acted and solidly written, with a nice atmosphere. The repetitive episodes and going nowhere story quickly ended something which had potential.

Gave it five episodes, just couldn't get into it. No attachment to the characters or interest in their survival.

Got too repetitive. Cast is quite bland (some characters even quite obnoxious like Dr. Rush) and overarching story is weak. Lasted till S2E11

[through season 2]

All I could ever think about was how these people were going back to earth, inhabiting other people's bodies, and basically pseudo-raping them. Ended on a pseudo-cliffhanger. I really wanted to find out what happened to fat nerd boy.

maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance, but seriously I couldn’t get through three episodes.

More engaging and digestible than Atlantis, which ended up being a slog. Showed enough uniqueness and potential to make you think "What if they continued?" But not as good as seasons 1-8 of SG1.

Stargate Universe gains points for trying something different with the franchise. Although it's not unique. In fact it's unpleasantly derivative of other serial dramas of the time. If nothing else, the characters may keep you interested for a little while. If not, it's well worth sticking around for the monumental performing from Robert Carlyle.
