Everything I liked about The Young Pope is torn up, thrown to the ground, and stepped upon in this "second season". It's one big crisis of ideas, and it makes random plot moves (like the nuns during the opening credits) hoping that it will look good. Sorrentino drags most of the characters from the first part into this one, but decidedly doesn't not know what to do with them this time (so he strips down the female characters randomly). I liked the crowd surfing pope in the end, that's about it

It is not as wild as the first iteration but very interesting nevertheless. Malkovich brings a different twist to the setting and it builds up well on the first series. This is a tremendously risky, ballsy undertaking given the subject material. So even just for that it is worth watching.

Masterpiece continuation of The Young Pope. From laughs through reflection to tears. Cinematography at the highest level. Opening credits that are award-worth music videos. Silvio Orlando playing brilliantly.

If Sorrentino doesn't stop making every of his movies or series a titty flick he'll ruin this actually quite interesting career. I'm so sick of this bullshit. L'oro was hell already.

A step down from the TYP, because Sorrentino is hellbent on casting Malkovich against type as a softspoken non-entity to contrast with Law. Malkovich should have been given the agenda of the interim pope so as to give him something to do. Furthermore the surrealism of the prior series is abandoned in favor of Big Messages, mostly the danger of fundamentalist religion. I found this less compelling than the seemingly pro-conservative stance of TYP. Aesthetically of course it's still excellent.

Deliciously extravagant and feriociously stylish. Builds extremely well on the foundation of The Young Pope. -- Moments of pure, untainted emotion and beauty make this series something very special.

The whole series is just gret decisions followed by very stupid ones and then great decisions followed by very stupid ones
