Three stories interwoven together in this Dan Curtis production starring Karen Black in each segment. The first, about a high school student infatuated with his teacher. The second, a paranoid tale of two sisters - one good, the other evil, and the third about an African tribal doll that comes to life and terrorizes a woman in her apartment. (imdb)

Everyone is going to tell you about the third sketch, but the first is about a woman that let's men use her as a sex toy until they run out of ideas and therefore become boring and useless, so she kills them. This was made for television. In the seventies.

It's a trilogy, I'll give it that. The terror is a bit thin on the ground, though. The first story with its fairly dark theme is probably the most interesting, and it goes downhill from there via the predictable second part to the faintly ridiculous final segment (which seems to be the most popular, for some reason). Black seems to have a good enough time in her various roles, but overall this is a bit low key and uninteresting.

I would rate this higher if it was merely "Amelia". That segment is horrifying and simply incredible to watch. The other two segments are fun enough to watch based on their source and Karen Black's performances. But damn...that doll is fuck crazy.

This is like a precursor to the Tales From the Crypt series. Karen Black was good in all the shorts but only the last one was any fun. Maybe it was because I grew up in the '90s and watched all the horror anthologies that used to be on TV but I figured out the twists in the first two right away.

I like the idea of three quick stories where the film gets in, gets its scares and gets out, but while none of the three stories here is bad, they're not so good either. The first is a decent concept but underdeveloped, the second very predictable and the third a bit too absurd.

That final shot is great, reminded me of the infamous final shot of Sleepaway Camp, but mostly this is forgettable.

Great trilogy of stories. with the best one being the third tale being the best by far..the parting shot still gives me shivers to this day.

You pretty much watch this for the third segment with the Zuni doll. I remember watching this back on ABC in 1975 and that segment gave me nightmares for weeks.

The first story is merely decent, the second one is quite good and offers a fun twist, yet the third one elevates this into a higher level of TV movie. Karen Black does a great job.

The first two segments are dry and forgettable and drag the score down but the infamous African tribal doll finale is a genuine MASTERPIECE that deserves all the cult praise it gets. Fucking crazy ass Karen Black. That creepy last shot is quite possibly her finest moment.

The first story is handily the best & has arguably aged the best of the three, offering relevant social themes & a very fun Twilight Zone twist. The second story is fine, but predictable & not very interesting compared to the other two. The third story is, obviously, extremely iffy & has aged like milk- but it's still a decent killer doll short. Karen Black does a good job in all four of her roles, & makes each character feel distinct. Overall, this is enjoyable early-70's stuff.

Hey, I can't believe we got Karen Black!! Oh this is too good. We have to make the most of this! I know, let's cast her for three or four roles in three different segments. Only the third story will be worth anything, more comical than scary though... and screw continuity, we'll just edit the same shot of the crazy doll going berzerk against a black background into all the different scenes.

I admire the concept, but it is NOT executed well. Story 1 is really difficult to watch, not only because it's horribly acted, it's straight up offensive. Story 2 is painfully obvious what it's building up to. Story 3, yeah, that doll is fucking terrifying, but everything else about it is just as much a waste of time as the other two.

Black has a field day playing four tormented women in three bizarre, offbeat short stories. Best is the last.

It's got its charms, especially the last segment, and I've used the gif of a character listing books on "Demonology! Pornography! Satanism!" more than once. I just don't know if "terror" is the word I'd use for watching Karen Black pace a room for 75 minutes. Digest of Disconcerting? Omnibus of Ominous? Anthology of Awkward?
