Z-O-M-B-I-E-S

Taking it for what it is, which is a made-for-TV Disney musical comedy made for adolescents, it's good. The songs are super catchy which is the most important thing for this movie. The story is cliche but for the audience it carries a good message that is easy to follow. They costumes and backgrounds are fun. I like how everything is color matched with the pinks and the greens. It's cute but it's not going to change your world. For me, I think High School Musical is better but this is good too.

Per usual, I reserve very low scores, under the 40 mark, only to movies who outdone themselves in provoking my dislike. Mediocrity is the standard most movies tend to gravitate to. Incompetence and/or contradiction pushes away from it. This movie offers neither, and yet, at its very core, there's an essence that defies a certain basic dignity of the average movie. Therefore, i must punish it. For existing.

Decent enough film about accepting those with differences. Catchy music numbers and dance sequences.

I almost forgot I watched this with my daughter today. A Disney Channel movie. A real horror! Think High School Musical meets friendly zombies with a heavy preachy tone about discrimination. Yeah, I know, that's so frightening to envision, so be prepared! Within all the racial preachiness, I loved that the black zombie girl was wearing 'white face'.

The racism metaphor is painfully heavy-handed (painful also for the things that don’t translate-ie. the zombies are only acceptable when controlled by the wristbands). Elsewhere, it has a heart but it’s not always in the right place (see the parallel drawn between the rich girl with different hair vs. the systematically oppressed zombie-and guess who gets the climactic song). Positives includes good turns by the leads and some fun songs and dances. And three cheers for the hilarious gym teacher.
