The two good things about it are John Waters' cameo (?!) and the fact that Alvin has watched Pink Flamingos (?!?!?!?!?!?!)

Gets a better score than its predecessors because of this scene - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4iRo9srtMU - almost making me do a literal spit take of coffee on to the back of my kids' heads at 6 in the morning.

(Viewed on 13/06/16): Alvin and The Chipmunks was always a thin concept stretched beyond breaking point, especially given that the original animated series was based on a shitty novelty record. The films have at least made an effort to differentiate their personalities consistently across the series, but they seem designed for dim witted kids. True to form, T.R.C is relentlessly dumb, despite the occasional witty line, and Lee is still too much of an asshole to be truly convincing as Dave.

Eh, whatever. I suppose the message isn't terrible, if you ignore that the characters in the film are millionaires, and that everything they do is nonsensical. It's a bad movie, but maybe not offensively so.

You don't watch a Alvin and the Chipmunks film for a life changing experience, unless the experience drives you to suicide, but for pure stupidity it did what it was supposed to. Bring the Chipmunks hits and goofing around. Unnecessary but worth a couple of laughs if you let it. I'm still hoping for a Alvin and the Chipmunks/Smurfs mash-up! Just think of all the helium hits that'll bring!!!

What can you say about yet another Chipmunk movie? Surely nothing all that surprising. Or even enlightening. Although it is admittedly a bit astonishing that this talking and trilling trio of fur balls--given life over a half century ago by a silly novelty song--are still tenaciously clinging to their knothole in the pop-culture tree. At one point, Alvin is sitting on an airplane next to John Waters and lets him know he's seen PINK FLAMINGOES. Later, Alvin rips open a pack of sugar in what I think is supposed to be a cocaine gag. Then Alvin says he, Simon, and Theodore are "emotional hoarders." What the fuck, Alvin.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip is as bad as the rest of them, which should surprise nobody old enough to read this review. It has some of the worst integration of CGI characters in a live-action world, it contains some laughably bad dialogue, the actors seem lost - especially when interacting with the chipmunks - the plot feels like it's been taken from a TV show and stretched to an unbearable length, and most of the music doesn't fit with the target demographic.
