An OK adaptation of Simon's play, but it's much better seen on stage. Lays on the nostalgia pretty thick.

If this is what Neil Simon is like, I think I can skip the rest. A messy blend of boot camp drama and coming-of-age tale, told in a nostalgic tone that doesn't work at all for me.

Matthew Broderick...I just can't stand him outside of Ferris.

Matthew Broderick is ill equipped to play the role of an army man, and this movie suffers from that. Christopher Walken's character makes this semi-reminiscent of "Full Metal Jacket, unfortunately this is too much of a mash up of mis-cast actors to hold up.

Another perplexing movie choice for my grandmother to make to when I was 12. I was not pleased. Upon re watch it is largely familiar feeling and so nostalgic it is sometimes campy.

It all comes together just right.

My very distant memory is of a set of mildly amusing cliches which would be almost offensively bland if one took seriously the distance from what is actually revolting about the situations portrayed. The first third of FULL METAL JACKET but everyone is ultimately not a bad guy and no-one commits murder or suicide and it is the opposite of the first third of FULL METAL JACKET.

Overly episodic and never feels like the sum of its parts. The love story with Daisy particularly adds nothing after the first scene. Walken steals the show.

I saw this once when I was 11. I feel that is the correct number of viewings for this film.
