A pretty decent "Red Dawn" type movie only replacing the Russians with private military rednecks, which is just fine by me. It's got some decent action that jumps right in and keeps the thrills going until the very disappointing final act, and boy howdy does it really try hard to disappoint you. Tear jerking was not what I was looking for in my lazy Saturday action movie.

The premise was entirely ridiculous. Acting was fairly good from Brittany Snow & Dave Bautista was OK. Then the sister stunk it up bad. The plot was pointless and there were many holes in the logic. An overall unrewarding attempt.

This movie is pretty bad, flow is weird, acting definitely leaves something to be desired but it was perfect for how I saw it. Sundance after dark with a drink in my hand at the Egyptian. Projector wasn't working well at first had a pretty funny question an answer with the theater manager as he killed time.

Bushwick is a serviceable thriller that doesn't overstay its welcome and does a decent job of immersing the audience in its chaotic action. Its central gimmick of pretending to have most of its scenes shot in one-take is distracting, at least to me, and its characters leave a lot to be desired. It also probably could have gotten more mileage out of its political subtext, which would have made up for its lackluster characters. Bushwick is a decent movie that had the potential to be great.

Very good technically speaking. Almost no static shot. Thrilling until the very end, which I particularly liked.

Some movies haunt you. This one, despite all the posturing about how tough the Bushwick neighborhood/ghetto is, attempts to portray a realistic civil war scenario and the massive loss of life and hope that would result. It is a dark film that starts slowly -- curse ye all Millennials -- but picks up the pace to become a type of localized apocalypse where the familiar becomes the threatening. Would watch again which I cannot say about most films.
