Seth Green is cool but Macaulay Culkin is a mess, the subculture is cool but the visuals are a mess... and I'm just... I'm confused...

Interesting (true) story, but I felt the cast could have been better - it never felt convincing to me that these were real people and not just "actors"

Had a lot of potential for some good commentary, but it's all ruined by its messy attempts at postmodernism, attempts at being edgy, and distractingly low production values. Not to mention the bad acting, outside of Seth Green. Culkin can't carry a film at all.

After the first half hour or so it gets to an impressive & intensive decadent trashy height that is at the same time depressing and fun fun fun.

A mess made bearable by a surprisingly great Seth Green, who manages to stay grounded in spite of how cartoonish everything around him is.

Amateur hour all around. What was Chloe Sevigny thinking? Didn't anyone look at the dailies and realize every scene that was being shot was garbage?

"As Alig, Culkin makes a complete embarrassment of himself, but the true horror of his performance is felt most whenever he shares screen time with the incredible Seth Green." - Ed Gonzalez

A laughably bad performance from Macaulay Culkin ruins an otherwise quirky black comedy.

Wow, Michael Alig must have DIED when he watched this mess and saw his candy-coloured club world depicted so blandly. For a story about THE most cutting edge, notorious NYC party queens, everything looks so ugly, cheap and dull, I've never seen a film with well known actors look so shitty and unbelievably amateurish! If this film achieves anything, it proves that Macaulay Culkin is actually heterosexual, cause his performance of a gay man is profoundly hollow.

Yeah, it's easy to confuse the film with it's subject-- Michael Alig. Along with Caligula and Erin Brockavich this has to be one of the most unlikable real life characters to ever have a film made about him. Can't exactly condemn the film, but I can't exactly say that you need to see it. So, take your pick.

This has all the elements in place to be a trashy delight -- overwrought club kids, good actors, candy-colored scenery, and a lurid real-life story. So why is it so awkward and boring?

Seth Green & Macauley Culkin are fantastic in this black comedy. Their performances alone make this worth seeing, which is good, 'cos I strongly felt I'd NEVER forgive Culkin for those fucked up home alone movies
