Oh Godard, you frustrating bastard. You start off with some wonderful stuff, meta-cinema comments and neat little self-references, plenty of intriguing photography and technique, a bold French-themed palette (red, white and blue). You really got me into it. But you couldn't hold back, could you? You had to start speechifying. Blah blah blah arrogant shallow pseudo-intellectual gibberish blah blah. An absolute mess, but with Godard, it's always an interesting one.

surprising and extremely impressive, with an artistic cohesiveness not seen since his early 60s work. furthermore, his political ideas are not hidden behind obnoxious diction but are rather presented in a clear and inventive manner. that supermarket tracking shot is something to behold. among his best.

I'm in love with the infinite tracking shot along the ends of the checkout belts at a supermarket.. to me it evokes unintentional meanings that Godard & Gorin were not expressly discussing, but possibilities they were surely aware of. Which, I understand, is a meaningful expression itself for the Dziga Vertov Group.

I'm glad I'm not the type of person that could love this, but I do enjoy appreciating Godard.

Like with all Godard films, this one has some absolutely unforgettable moments and some really boring scenes where some guy just talks into the camera for ~5 minutes (also some good scenes where a guy just talks into the camera but those are rarer). I love Jane Fonda's casting and the scene in the supermarket is essential stuff.

You know those scams where they tell you you'll get a free prize of some sort as long as you listen to an incredibly banal and snooze-worthy speech about timeshares and then at the end it was a giant waste of time? Score is not a grade.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone not interested in the May '68 conflict, but there are still some awesome bits throughout. I never felt entirely bored with the preaching, as Godard keeps you just interested enough without ever really ceasing to "educate".

I'm in shock after prolonged exposure to Jane Fonda's haircut. The film was slightly less abysmal.

Other reviewers have it spot on - Godard, no matter how great you are at handling a camera, this film just doesn't quite work. He seems to have lost his touch around this time, but certainly not his style. The last 10 minutes are the best part of the whole movie, by far.

Immediately starts of well with fun meta commentary. While this is still far from a conventional narrative movie plus its radical political motives are in your face, but its relative simple plot structure makes the delivery of those ideas much more cohesive and coherent than in similar works. Also it contains two fabulous long tracking shots,; the first one of the factory like a dollhouse. The pièce de résistance however is a reel long lateral tracking shot of cash registers in a supermarket,

Em honra do maio de 68 filme #3. Brazilian feelings #5.

Godard at his most politicized and intellectual, but at the same time this features some of his most technically/aesthetically impressive work.
