Willsun

Does a decent job of showing the destruction and ensuing panic, but it gets confusing in the end when you wonder how it's supposed to wrap up and what really happened.

Saving Private Ryan (1998) - Rated 13 Aug 2012

A gripping WWII movie that takes you all the way through a platoon's mission. A good watch if you feel like something patriotic.

Battle Royale (2000) - Rated 12 Aug 2012

Although an unreal scenario, the presentation is done with enough bluntness that it's believable just long enough to enjoy the movie.

The Hunger Games (2012) - Rated 12 Aug 2012

An unabashed copycat to Battle Royale mixed with teen girl drama and a horribly transparent bourgeois-authoritarian upper class/government. Sadly appeals to today's common teenager while riding on the ideas of the original Japanese story.

Cast Away (2000) - Rated 12 Aug 2012

A simple and touching film. I'm just sorry it took a decade for me to watch it after everyone kept quoting my name from this movie.

Fist of Fury (1972) - Rated 12 Aug 2012

A good watch for anyone curious about the prototypical Chen Zhen character and the iconic fight scenes. A guilty pleasure for the rampant Chinese nationalism and the hate against Japanese imperialism, as well as Bruce Lee's wacky disguises. Other than that, the story's pretty clunky and not for those who aren't fans of Bruce Lee.

The Green Mile (1999) - Rated 07 Aug 2012

Sometimes it's nice to have a little unexplained, story magic turn something like death sentences into something moving.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) - Rated 07 Aug 2012

Without having seen Forrest Gump first, I thought the film was pretty moving and interesting in the unexplained nature of Benjamin's reverse aging.

Unleashed (2005) - Rated 07 Aug 2012

A strange mix of martial arts action and sympathetic drama mixed into one. Somehow works out to satisfy the gimmick premise that was advertised and ends on a happy ending.

The Forbidden Kingdom (2008) - Rated 07 Aug 2012

A great example of how entirely ignorant and horrible Hollywood treats with Asian stars. However, I do think the creators of the film were genius in tapping into the ultimate white-man fantasy: two legendary warriors are fighting over who can train you, the clueless suburban warrior, in martial arts while an exotic cute Asian girl has eyes only for you while you save her savage kingdom because you are "the chosen one."
