It's no High School Musical, and that was already a piece of shit, so...

If you switch out the musical numbers for hardcore sex scenes this would have made a half-decent porn parody. Unfortunately, Descendants is just shy of 2 hours worth of bad acting, poor production and moronically simple writing. I wonder if they show this in prisons?

Why did I do this to myself? Sara is not allowed to pick movies anymore!

Disney comes up with a new generation fairytale kids. Second generation offspring of famous characters from their old movies. Interesting idea, but so hopelessly executed. They basically put them in as insecure school kids finding themselves and singing songs. So High School Musical.... again! Disney on repeat creatively.

Hmmmm... yeah... this was... well... the music wasn't horrible. And it's a decent concept. But ridiculously bad execution.

A cringefest that I somehow couldn't look away from.

A colorful, fun movie, with great costumes and singing. The concept is interesting and the mixture of fantasy with modern technology is done well. The film wastes no time jumping right into the premise and introducing all of the main characters.

You can always tell when I have visited my granddaughter! Once you have fully recovered from your diabetic coma as a result of falling into the last 20 minutes of unrefined disney sugar, you can appreciate that this was quite a fun movie, based on a really good idea, and with a really good performance by Dove and the team.

Doesn't embrace being a musical so it falls short, it's just a weak movie with a couple of song added to it.

I'm hardly the target market, but I thought this was terrific. It's almost always a delight to see Kristin Chenoweth, and Dove Cameron as her daughter made consistently interesting acting choices. It was like a Schmigadoon reunion ... only this came first. The songs were surprisingly catchy ("Evil Like Me" is particularly awesome), and the only downside was made-for-tv production values ... I loved the costumes, but some of the CGI was very Once Upon a Time.

I dodged this a couple of times, but eventually our kids forced me to watch it. It's not that bad, I guess, but it's not that great either. It's way too long (almost 2 hrs) and has made for TV production values, but there's something comforting in watching these PG-rated "rotten to the core" characters. The songs are not that bad either, but I still hope I don't need to re-watch this ever again -- and I hope the sequels are better.

Descendants is probably a better example of a TV movie - however, it would have benefited a lot from a bigger budget. The storyline is magical and charming but is let down by the low production value which is shown very clearly in costume choices. The acting is solid even though Chenoweth is clearly miscast as Maleficent. Descendants is no HSM but it is definitely a solid entry on to Ortega's resume. Descendants isn't bad, its just born in the TV movie market and can't help that.
