Growing up in Portland, Oregon, Matt Groening did not particularly like school, which is what originally turned him towards drawing. In the mid-1980s, he moved to Los Angeles and started drawing a comic strip named "Life in Hell" which eventually became published in the newspaper where he worked. In 1988, James Brooks, looking for a filler in the television show "The Tracy Ullman show", turned towards a framed "Life in Hell" strip on his wall and contacted Groening. The animated shorts that Groening created were "The Simpsons".

It lacks the biting satire of American culture that made The Simpsons great, it lacks the love of its genre that made Futurama great, and there are not enough of the clever jokes that were a staple of both. There's a kernel of a good show here, and I'll watch the next season, but it needs to up its game for me to stick with it beyond that.

Watched about half the season and I’d say my overall impression is fairly “meh.” Some funny moments and vocal performances, but overall it just kinda feels like a bunch of medieval-themed Treehouse of Horror episodes starring a female Bart.

(Seasons 1-3) Decent show, but relies too much on the Futurama formula for its own good. Works best when it abandons being a comedy and embraces being a serialized fantasy adventure. There's some really solid world-building and character development here that hints at it becoming a much better show later down the road, but so far it isn't living up to its potential.

Matt Groening at his very best. It's as if those wonderful Treehouse of Horror episodes from The Simpsons had continuity

Painfully bland. It's not bad, just lazily written and quite boring. The humor is mostly redundant, only the elves got a few chuckles out of me. Sad to say I was actually happy when it ended, now I feel free. Maybe I should have stopped earlier.

Decent but it doesn't have the same magic as futurama even if your not comparing the two, there's just something missing.

It is essentially Futurama but with space/future motifs replaced by medieval/fantasy ones. It's funny and relatively good, just not new.

This is the most frustrating show I've seen. It has the potential to be one of the greatest shows ever, but it's always dancing around that potential. Every time I want to give up on it, there will be one or two really good episodes. In the most recent season (3), it reaches some amazing heights but it also thought it would be funny if the king said "honk" again and again. EDIT: I gave up during season four. It just got too boring. What a waste.

Frankly, this was a refreshing break from the repetitive aspect of The Simpsons. Matt Groenings signature charm and style of comedy was captured really well. And despite me watching the first two episodes and going "Eh, it was just OK..." I then binged the entire series in two days, I was hooked and the series did what many TV shows and films have been failing to do in recent years: Leave you wanting more. Many shows really don't do this anymore by giving us poorly written/performed endings.

Feels like they scraped jokes off the cutting room floor of Futurama. None of the characters are really likable in this- although the king has his moments being a lovable jerk.

I watch only first 3 episode and this is a really weak show that aint have thought about itself or the potential. Boring.

Matt Groening walks into the apothecary and says, "Give me your strongest Simpsons potion," but the formula is a bit off. Not to say there aren't a few great laughs here and there, but it doesn't live up to its potential. Most characters outside of Bean are uninteresting.

A weird show where they have a good foundation for a lot of jokes but they rarely work, especially since everything feels so safe and tepid coming from Groening. They rarely play on fantasy tropes for jokes, and when they do it's generally overly obvious crap that didn't even merit a chuckle out of me. The final episodes of the season when they decided to not be episodic were mostly uninteresting, trite garbage. It might get better in later seasons, but thus far its been underwhelming and dull.

Slow start, starts gaining steam during the later episodes, then ends on an abrupt cliffhanger. If you're a fan of Groening's work, you'll enjoy. If not, I can't strongly recommend it at this time. Episodes 3 & 5 are probably the high points in terms of comedy.
