Gilmore Girls

The epitome of comfort TV. The witty dialogue and strong acting frequently mitigate the inherent chick flick-iness of it all. And as much as I've grown tired of Melissa McCarthy's schtick in recent years, she's pretty darn adorable here.

Like The Simpsons, I find it hard to rate because of how massively the quality varies. I'll do two separate reviews here: Seasons 1-3 constitute the best non-genre high school-centric TV series of all time outside of Freaks and Geeks and Friday Night Lights. Warm, funny, witty, quotable, just enormously watchable. (Best episode: "They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They?") Seasons 4-7 Gilmore Girls is a mediocre-to-poor college show that quickly runs out of storylines. My rating is more for seasons 1-3.

Not my cup of tea but for a girly show the two leads have fantastic chemistry. Early glimpses of the talented Melissa McCarthy as well.

if you watch carefully this is actually a very deep show that challenges you to consider the ethical implications of each character's---nah I just spend each episode happily nitpicking a character and the target rotates regularly and apparently someone to critique plus fast-talking humor creates comfort food for me. also paris is best girl and should've been endgame, fight me

(Completed) I love it in some ways (Emily & Lorelai), and am annoyed by it in others (Rory). P.S. Seasons 1-3 are the best, 4 is okay, and 5-7 aren't worth watching. I hate Rory.

Total cozy show. If I could move to Stars Hollow rn and enjoy the crisp fall air at a fun town festival, I would.

W3E1P1S1V0M1A1R1. Fun watch for a parent of daughters. Not sure I actually learned anything or really enjoyed myself, but at least it sparked a lot of conversations.

This show is the perfect series to get addicted to. A lot of the first seasons are just wholesome small town vibes with the main focus being Rory's Chilton and Yale aspirations. In the last season it hits what is notoriously known as it's "bad season", but is not unwatchable. Gilmore Girls is enjoyable and fun, and thankfully (SPOILER) realizes Dean is actually super annoying and abandons his character. I definitely recommend :)

Perfectly acceptable entertainment that knows exactly what it is and what it's trying to be. The characters are comically cliche, but you can get past that. It's got enough heart and enough laughs for me to give a thumbs up.

I've never seen Gilmore Girls when it originally aired 2000-2007 but a few months ago I thought I'd give it a try since I've always heard so many great things about it. I can't say that I loooved it as I usually love my teen drama shows. The storylines and storytelling in general are just not witty enough. But I still enjoyed binge-watching it very much. The characters are so likable and the dialogues are just superb. And I'm sure this show worked much better back then.

A fast talking classic. Not everything aged perfectly but it's tough to think of too many other shows that could match it in wit.
