Honestly, it's not that bad. I don't know if it's just my warped sense for dumb comedy, but I was far more bothered by the attempts at a schmaltzy "Lifetime" movie plot than any of the many attempted bad jokes in this internet fad meme movie. All things considered, for a dumb talking-animal family/kids movie, and a "Lifetime" movie on top of that, this could have been way way worse...I mean it's no David DeCouteau joint.

The character of Grumpy Cat was so similar to April Ludgate (which is played by Grumpy's voice, Aubrey Plaza, so they sound exactly the same too) it felt like a Parks and Recreation spin-off every now and then. (Which is not a bad thing at all) Anyway, much better than other christmas/kid/talking animal movies.

Surprisingly good for a Lifetime movie, mainly because it knows what it is and is more than happy to poke fun at the schmalz-y xmas genre. It has a good dose of off-the-wall humour without veering into "lol random" territory. The story is the usual kid+talking animal takes on the bad guys. What makes it enjoyable is the rifftrax-style narration provided by Grumpy. It doesn't always work, but with the short runtime it provides enough genuine laughs without wearing too thin.

Most of Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever is awful. It has poor acting, a crowded yet simple story, it isn't particularly funny, and most of the time it's just dull or stupid. Aubrey Plaza's voiceover is sometimes funny -- largely because it's primarily meta-commentary on the film and the Grumpy Cat phenomenon as a whole -- and the cat doesn't distract from the proceedings, even if it's not really on-screen enough, or the main focus of the plot; it's just the one to draw in viewers.

(Rewatch. Family loves this film. Cat's interruptions are annoying. Most of my rating comes from the meme. RIP Grumpy Cat.) It's really not that bad. Decent twist. Adequate child actor. Sufficient tongue in cheek humor and interruptions without being annoying. I can name actual human celebrities who have acted worse in movies than this cat. Fun extras on the DVD. Gets better on rewatch.

this masterpiece captures my take on Christmas spirit like never before: ill-tempered, cheesy, and saccharine, but ultimately well-meaning if not actually good, which is coincidentally how I feel about waking up too early so I can buy my syrup-y cheddar-y McGriddles

The first thing that strikes you, in the first 20 seconds, is how much you are cringing. You're 20 seconds in and it is a terrible reminder that fad movies happen again and again, and you are watching it happen again now, and you think of the future, and humanity looking back at Grumpy Cat in its contexteless, hypeless state and wondering - just what the hell. What the hell.

I'm so starstruck! IT'S GRUMPY CAT!!! A shameless Christmas movie which prides itself on how awful it is, featuring everyones favorite grumpy cat.... Grumpy Cat! And for a crappy movie it's surprisingly watchable. Borrows a little from Home Alone and mall movies while Grumpy makes sarcastic comments at how terrible everything is in this movie. At least it doesn't pretend to be more then what it is. As far as kitty Christmas goes: Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever (2014) > Santa Claws (2014)

Yes it's a stupid internet meme. Yes it's a Lifetime movie. But it is kind of funny for what it is. The kids loved it.

Very literally plays like a rejected Lifetime script plucked from its natural surroundings of an incinerator with Grumpy Cat hastily written in. All the comedy falls flat save for Aubrey Plaza's snarky comments. It's also something of a forerunner for Deadpool released two years later. If more time, control and forethought had been given to Plaza she might have elevated it even further. Still, if your natural inclinations is to say "Bah humbug" to Christmas, it's a worthy seasonal distraction.
