Hunters

The pilot was too good to be true, it had that camp flavor that hit just right. My hopes of finding a show that did alt.universe right like Leftovers got brutally smashed in ep2. They introduced comedy. Worse: group comedy. The Hunters turn into an Aliexpress knockoff of Tarantino. Every Hunter brutally sucks ass and in the hands of these untalented pubescent brains the holocaust stakeraising feels sickeningly inappropriate.

Stylized, cast of characters, 70s era, Nazi hunting, and Pacino. All those things were good and fun. But, the story doesn't live up to even the simple premise and caps off with a terrible twist. It also just utterly fails in the Holocaust scenes and generally when it goes for tragedy.

It tries to be Schindler's List tragedy mixed in with Inglourious Basterds' gleeful violence, but it comes of exploitative of the former and too gleeful of the latter. Mixing Holocaust terror with blaxploitation references and weed-fueled 70s styled musical numbers gives you indigestion. Also, when it comes to most of the representation (the black lesbian cop, for instance), it comes accross as disingenous and doing diversity just to check it off a list. Some of the cast is very bland.

I'm really liking this show. Excellent cinematography and acting, with a great story and a lot of surprising moments. EDIT: Season 2 was even better. Incredible show!

What kills me is bad guys constantly citing Darwin. It's so stupid that it borders on funny. Visually it's ok though.

While I feel like sometimes the series tries to hard to elevate its graphic violence and 70's era excess to something controversial, it's at its best when it lets its cast of unique characters run rampant. The series' best emotional moments are when it lets its characters feel the pain and gravity of their Nazi-hunting mission and tones down some of its more bold stylistic choices. Plus, Al Pacino!

One of the worst twists ever. Like ever.

Horrendous ending. Was enjoying this for the most part too. Might as well have been a dream all along while we're at it.
