Formula done right. The writing is sharp, the acting is strong (despite there being little or no character development), and the cases are interesting, usually with a twist or two. *CHUNG CHUNG*

I always preferred Homicide but this remains a shockingly entertaining show considering the formulaic approach and long run.

Nothing beats the original. The spin offs just got way too out of hand and I never could get into them. Just give me Jerry Orbach and Sam Waterston all day. It's all you need. The best part of the show is that you could jump in and out at any point and not be lost, because each episode focused on a different case, rather than being a continuous episodic series.

Couldn't get into 1 episode of this. I just found this really boring to watch.

good series

This series definitely paved the path for the majority of what Network television currently has in its line up. It was bold in both storyline and casting. It was the OG that no other show can properly duplicate. It will always have a place in my heart as it was one of the first crime shows I was exposed to growing up. The Law and Order legacy will live forever and the Dick Wolf empire as well.
